Visit to St John's Church

This week at school we are celebrating Festivals Week, and in Year one we are learning about why churches are important places for Christian people. We were lucky enough to be able to visit St John's church in Heaton Mersey yesterday afternoon, where we were able to see some of the features of churches that we'd been learning about in school. We saw
stained glass windows, pews, an altar, candles, a font and lots of other things too. Thank you to the vicar, Marcus Maxwell, for making us feel so welcome and giving us such an interesting tour. Thanks also to the army of mums who came along to help us walk to and from school - we really couldn't have done it without your help. Why not come and ask us about some of the things that we saw - we'd love to tell you!

Are there any bugs in our bug hotel?

Today we went onto the field to look at our bug hotel. We wanted to see whether any bugs had come to stay.

We thought we would see LOTS of bugs.

But we didn't see very many at all. There were only two tiny flies sitting on the roof.

We are going to go out and check again in a few weeks. We hope some bugs have come next time. Lewis thought that we should put some food near the hotel to attract them.

Teddy Day

Today we all brought our teddies to school. We talked about their names, what they look like, how they feel and where they came from.

Some of us had big teddies. Some of us had little teddies. Some teddies were old. Some teddies were new.

We really enjoyed comparing them.

Old Toys

This morning Miss Murray brought some old toys into class. She brought a doll, a treehouse, some skittles, a wooden top, a tractor, a robot and a soft rabbit.

The skittles were made of wood. Her great grandad made them for her grandpa. They are more than 100 years old.

Thanks, Miss Murray!

Where should we put our bug hotel?

We want some bugs to come and live in our bug hotel.

We had to decide whereabouts in the playground to put it.

We thought about putting it in the middle of the playground, but we didn't think very many bugs would come to visit.

Then we went onto the field. We thought that bugs would like the grass, but then
we thought of an even better place.

We took the bug hotel to the nature area. We know that bugs like eating dead leaves and plants, and dead creatures, so we thought they would be very happy there.

Peshawa and Mr Ellis tried pushing the bug hotel into the ground, but it was too hard, so we moved it somewhere softer.

Next week we will go back outside to see whether any bugs have come to stay in our hotel.
